Nettles Island is a barrier island OFF of Hutchinson Island. Nettle’s is actually “on” the Indian River….to get to the ocean, (that'd be the Atlantic Ocean for anyone geographically challenged) you walk off of the island itself, and across the highway.

You can walk, skip, jump, or scoot over the road on a Golf Cart or on a bike, no problem. Sure, you can drive over too--there's a large parking lot, but you're on vacation! Enjoy the walk along Nettle's Island well-cared for boulevards.

Pet owners, your furry friends are welcome and encouraged to walk with you, but grab a baggie to clean up after your pooches. And keep them on a leash at all times.

Grab your Nettle's Island IDs...remember, Nettle's is a gated community. The guards at the gate are generally Nettle's Island residents themselves, so you'll get to know them if you stay for even a week. (Say "hi"! Be friendly! You'll find that folks on Nettle's Island wave and smile a lot and you'll likely find  yourself doing the same...)

You'll also get a pass for your vehicle, so that you can get through in a sec, but the entrance to Nettle's Island has someone there 24 hours a day.
